Well OK actually I was checking my fence line. Looks real promising. I let the field untouched the entire spring and summer. It's perfect for a deer to bed down in. I also saw some major digging for acorns down in the lower woods. I haven't heard any Turkey's yet but I'm fairly sure I heard a deer busting through the woods the other afternoon right below the house.

Sounds good. Didn`t you say you saw a doe crossing the drive way the other day?

About a month ago I guess. They can be standing 20 feet from the house right now and not be seen. The ground scratching I saw was on the fence line lower right between the two ditches. I think they're mostly crossing above me right now. Likely along the lower edge of the power line R.O.W.

That sounds about right. Following the powerlines and staying close to the woods.

I just hope TVA doesn't decide to mow this year. I'm putting the goats in up there the next day or so to get some fat before winter. I've got about 5 places I got to fix first just some minor fence repair. About a half hour with some staples or nails will do it. It's in a lot better shape than I expected.

Give you something to do.

Yea. Worse place is up close to the Hemlock tree. I'll know the deer are crossing lower when the lower alarm starts going off.

I don`t think those goats will go too far from home. They seem to be content home bodies.
Hopefully you will be home if TVA decides to mow and can stop them. Should be enough food up there to hold the goats through the winter.

I don't want them mowing where the deer may be bedding down. That is the only grown up field on the ridge for a long ways. The rest are either mowed for hay or have cattle on them. Only thing better is a fresh field just planted.

Yea, The uncut field will draw them. The goats may even put them at ease. Also I think they will be using the old known trails they used last season. Will be a matter of being there when they cross.

I just hope the shooters hold off this time.

Just strange they showed up right at hunting season. I never hear them down at Pappy's in the summer. But I think the ones doing the shooting used to live down the road from Pappy and moved a few years ago. He is my cousins half brother. Same guy we got the Golden Retriever from when I was a kid that the people behind your mom and dad had. You neighbor gave it to him and he gave it to us later on.

We will be alright either way. The shooters didn`t mess things up too much last season.

They're not as close as they sound but they sound like they're a few hundred feet away. They're at the top of the field behind Pappy's.
