I am back from the muzzle load hunt on the lease with Mike 243 and Nytransplant. Due to some unforseen circumstances we cut the hunt short and came home at lunch time today.
It wasn`t a bad hunting trip as we had a lot of fun. I missed a small buck yesterday morning. He busted me at around 7 am. We played peek-a boo for about 10 min. or so. He was standing behind some trees and kept peeking around at me. I kept my sight on him and waited till he peeked out enough to give me a neck shot. When the smoke cleared he was gone. I went down to where he was and found no blood or hair so I guess I missed.
This morning I was busted by two doe. I got off a shot at a white one finger salute as they ran off. About 20 min or so later a nice 8 point streaked past me. I could not get him in the scope. Nytransplant was ratteling and grunting and the buck was running toward him. Nytransplant grunted and the buck stopped and he harvested it.
Like I said some unforeseen things happened back here and we came home. We plan to try going back up during the gun hunt.
I plan to be at ib`s tomorrow evening.

Glad you got a couple shots in. The one you missed last week is still up here. Same pattern as when you saw it. That means maybe we got some rethinking to do about where to hunt. Tom used to hunt right along the rim of the ravine at the top just slightly toward where you were. BTW is that the same scope I was hunting with last year?

Yes it is and I plan to do some target practice before hunting with it again. I think it may have been bumped or something. I know brother had it zeroed in but it`s been stored and moved around some. Gonna check it out.

My last shot with it I was in the cross hairs and pretty close range.. The fact you hit the doe last year with the one I have now and your scope makes me wonder about the sighting. For what were doing up here you might do better without it till you can check it. If the deer are crossing like we've seen so far a scope will hurt more than help due to dense woods. Unless one crosses from the western side we're not going to have but about a 20-30 yard shot tops.

Can`t use iron sights because of the mounts. They are not see through.

Can you mark the scope location on the mounts then remove them both? Then put it back on later and check sighting.

No, I just need to fire it at a target and sight it in.

OK.. I'm going to have to build a target down at the creek to practice and site in. Might get it done this winter.. Charge B.I.L. and nephews to use it :>}
