I finally got my new hearing aids today. Valuable lesson learned and some advice to pass down. Never go to a hearing aid store. Got to an Audiologist first and get tested by an audiologist and not a licensed Hearing Aid Dispenser acting like one. If you are a VET go through V.A. They have a great audiology program. Back logged somewhat but worth the wait.
These new ones do what the others bought at Audibel store were promised to do but couldn't. The dealer lacked knowledge of the product despite many years in business.
With the new ones I got today background noises are filtered to the correct level so it does not override everything else. That makes having a conversation much easier. Automatic volume level control works great. It does the adjusting for me to the situations by measuring the sound level. Manual override of volume is there if needed. No more adjust both ears. With these when you adjust one ear the other adjust as well. No feed back even with hands cuffed over ears. No loud road noise driving.
For any non Vet in the East Tennessee area I recommend the University Audiology Department at Neyland Stadium. They too are tops. I used to take my grandson there. A student under watch of a professor will be the one you see at UT. They're great as well and know what they are doing.

Still working real good. I went up on the river and tried them out listening to the surroundings. I could hear the birds real good and had good directional hearing. These are in the ear type. My other ones were over the ear type with an ear mold in the ears..
It's nice to be able to be in the living room using them and not only be able to hear the freezer and fridge running in the kitchen.. Sounds are at levels they should be at now..

Dad helped one of his friends get hearing aids through the VA. George is around Dads age and a former WW2 sailor. He didn`t know how to obtain his benefits until dad helped him. He had been paying for hearing aids and other things the VA provides out of his own pocket for years.

Yea I'm glad I finally signed up.. Every little it helps. They'll even cover my corrective insoles next time I need them.. Most things wrong with me medically Medicare doesn't cover the cost of the things like hearing aids, insoles, and glasses. V.A. does. The red tape is a bit of a hassle initially as is the call in center to see their doctor but I have my own doctor anyway.. I have to see their doctor also to stay in the system though.. If my legs and feet go on me and I need a scooter somewhere down the road I'd much rather deal with V.A. than Medicare..

I went back up on the river today. Man was it cold. The river was running full and the wind was about 20 MPH from the north at 36 degrees temp. Gave me and Delta Dog incentive to walk faster. Of course she had to stop at every tree and sniff. She had on her thick fur coat and it didn't matter much to her.

I walked upstream on the inside loop and walked along the river back down to the van. Even at my back it was cold. Not many people up there and none were fishing.

Hey Randy I'm not absolutely certain but I think UT Martin might have an Audiology Dept where they train Audiologist .I trust them the professors oversee their work... A couple years ago they were talking about closing the one in Knoxville and leaving UT Martin open I think.
The brand I got this time are Phonak.. My grandson used that brand also.. When they give you a brand name and model look it up on line and check the features..
