Thieves hit mom and dad`s place around 5:45 this morning. They tried to steel Dad`s truck and my sisters car. The truck is ok but my sister`s car has the ignition switch messed up. My sister heard/saw them and woke dad. she grabed a big walkin stick and ran out and scared them off before dad could get to her. The thieves left a plastic storage tote full of stuff at the end of the drive way. I seem to miss all the fun. I stay up there some times but not last night.

I told you how they can catch them next time. Thieves won't know alarm goes off but your dad will. It would have been a site to see if your sister had caught them. I've had one car stolen a 61 Chevy of all things and one car broken into twice.. I hope no one steals my van you can't find ones like it anymore.

Yea, sis ain`t no bigger than nothin and often acts without thinkin. If she coulda got in a lick or two with that stick first she probably woulda had a chance. If not they probably woulda taken the stick away from her and hit her with it.

I used to wire my vehicles where the only way to steal them was with a tow truck. They couldn't even be hotwired. I grounded the secondary of the coil LOL... The switch was the part they never could find. :>}

I had one van that had a kill switch on the fuel line. They might steal it but it wouldn't get out of a parking lot LOL.

I know some of the newer models have a chip in the computer that matches the chip in the key. I found this out when I had extra keys made. The keys would unlock karen but would not start her. Her motor turned over but would not start. I wonder how they steel newer cars with these chips.

My Dad had a Canary Yellow 57 chevy. It was stolen in Missouri where we lived and driven to Chicago. It was nearly totaled in an accident there, and the insurance company brought it back to my dad a fewweeks later, and he refused to take it!! He took the money and bought a new 61 chevy impala, and and had a disablingswitch put in it. David, I'm Glad your sis didn't get hurt.

If you have newer car and either your house or car is being broken into push the red button on the key fob and the car will start honking like crazy and they can't shut it off. If you have an older car the best solution is a cut off switch either in the electronic system or the fuel system as was already mentioned.

On the old breaker points ignition I had a wire ran from the points to a grounding switch. The grounding switch was the secret though. It looked like a headphone jack LOL. I'd put in a dummy jack and the connection to ground broken and it would start. When I got out I pulled the plug and that disabled it.

Using the jack as a switch was Pappy's idea. He used them at work for Ma Bell. The jack had maybe 10 contacts that could be configured normally open or normally closed. The plug in pin operated the switch.
