I can say two laws on the books cover this if an animal is causing operational problems. Reckless Driving and Failure to Maintain Control Of Vehicle cover this. Somebody got too much time on their hands it looks like. Seriously if a person has a single bench seat pickup and two passengers with a dog how in the world could you do it? I've drove from Knoxville to Jefferson County with a Slobber Hound beside me and Pappy plenty of times. My big Ratty once I get moving usually goes to the back seat of the van if it's just me and her. She comes up front for water while I'm moving and thats it.

Next thing it will be livestock. Get a clue people. They are animals. If you choose to treat your animals like children by all means do so. Just don`t try to force me to comply.

First they ought to try stopping the dogs from not being tied up in the back of a pickup bed as I saw a Golden Retriever jump out of the back of a pickup on I-25 in Denver. He was killed by the car directly in front of me and I had to swere hard from hitting that guy as he slamed on his brakes trying to miss the dog. The owner of the dog kept driving like nothing had happened.

I've seen one dog that rode in the back of a truck all the time and stayed there. The owner was a heavy equipment operator I hired to clear my house site. The dog rode in the back of his utility truck everywhere he went. I wouldn't put one in the back of an open bed though. Especially not on an interstate.
