WIth a special thanks to Greg Matthews, Roger & Diane Morris, and DSA, I was able to harvest my best buck this morning. About 7:45 Greg spotted a deer coming out of the thicket up the hill behind us. I first thought either he spotted movement in the blind, or he was catching our scent. After discussing their behavior later, Greg and I think they were scenting the deer attractant Greg had sprayed on a scent rag earlier. He threw his nose up in the air several times, and took a couple of careful steps. I could tell he was a decent spike, but his left antler appeared to be thick, possible velvet. He jump to his right into some thicker stuff, at which point another deer proceeded to follow his direction out of the thicket. He was curious to what had the smaller buck spooked, and when he presented me with a quartering forward shot, I took it. 30 yards with the Excalibur Phoenix and 125 grain Slick Tricks. The shot sounded good, but we waited 1 1/2 hours for Roger to come up and help Greg with the tracking. He only went 30 yards. The arrow went through the front shoulder area and exit the opposite side back of the rib cage. 8 point, 130-140 est dressed weight. [/img] Attachments:

Carl congrats to you and to DSA for helping you on you quest. I'm proud for you. I have hopes for a conquest this year, and I don't care if it's a doe or a buck. I just want to be a tried and true deer hunter, and this is my 3rd year, and I hope too also get a nice wall hanger. I already have a spot picked out for it Carl. Are you going to mount yours Carl. It's a fine looking Buck. I hope you keep coming back and talk with us here, we like to hear about your plans, with what your going to do with the rest of the season!!

It's a whole lot cheaper than the full mount. I will mount my 1st Buck in a full nature mount if it's a large 8 point or better, any thing else will be a Euro mount.
