Here is an Elk Hunt that took place in the next county north of me. I think this is near Royal Blue WMA. www.knoxnews.com/news/2009/oct/17/hunters-best-gift-ever/ Group to take part in rare elk hunt at Campbell complex This must have been part of the herd that showed up in Clinton a small town to the south about 25-35 miles away from there a few years back.

i don`t know if it`s a good thing or not to have a hunt yet but time will tell. I understand the need for funding. hopefully future generations will have more oportunity to hunt the elk.

They'll have to open it eventually or trap some out to other places. I think the ones I heard about may have been wandering due to the drought. Or they may have just gotten bored. I think Big South Fork has a some too. BSF's likely came from this herd that wandered off.

I sure wish we could get them around here, although the farmers would throw a fit!

I sure wish we could get them around here, although the farmers would throw a fit! LBL or Ft Campbell is more than large enough for them to run free instead of in the current preserve. They may wander on in. Prevailing winds many times being west yea it's a good chance. The ones that went into Big South Fork came a considerable distance from where others were. I don't believe it was an intentional relocation program initially. One or two generational moves west and they would be in LBL.

Elk will in time move and spread out from the original area where they were planted by a considerable distance. The Elk planed in Arkansas were introduced near Jasper, AR 70 miles north of me and now Elk have been spotted on Linker Mountain just 10 miles from me. In an area without hard winters and we few natural predators the Elk herd will grow and continue to spread out their range. The key to great success when Elk are introduced into an area is keeping the damn poachers from killing them off.

Most all poachers are commercial operations done for profit. Hang E'm. But if a man is desperate and needing to feed family that's another matter and there's plenty of other game that the herds wouldn't hurt or one be missed including deer.

From what I understand they have already got a herd in LBL, and as they increase to a substantial measure, they will allow hunting at LBL!!
