No doubt about it. The Tom Sawyer method I think would be the best.

ib, I am not familiar with the Tom Sawyer method. Please describe. Kind of a variant on his white washing deal. You get several buddies together while the deers laying there then start a debate amongst them about something like you can't clean one a certain way it's impossible or of that nature. Then after arguing about it a few minutes have one of them prove they can of course

oh...... Like me saying I don`t know how and getting you to show me.
Corse that don`t work fer vme and you as we both clean fish, critters, and deer when need arises.
My way of thinking is I took it and out of respect for it I will clean it. Part of the total package of the hunt.

Nah not quite. Because they do it the way I said they done think they gotten the best of you too. Just kidding. If I killed it I'd clean it. Just tossed this one in to get a rise out of ya.

I know. I also know you and I were raised to respect the animal and we would never leave one as it would be disrespectful to the animals and our teachers. Case in point trying to save the meat from the road kill doe.

My son said I had to clean, and gut the doe I killed, at least the 1st. I can't wait for my grandson to kill his 1st deer, or squirrel, he's going to field dress it too. May have to supervise the situation, but it will get him another badge in scouts!!

We bring them back to the pole barn and hang them. Where we do it different is we cut the sternum first instead of the belly. if it's not a mount we cut the throat down to the base of the jaw to make it easy to get the windpipe out.
this lets the contents of the chest cavity to fall out first then you cut the belly it all just falls in the gut can.
if you cut the belly first then you got to hold the guts up/in or cut them away before you cut the breast bone.
with the guts in the can the intestines pull down on the colon and one quick circle of the knife it will pull it out for you.

I've been in on a couple of hog killings, I was the official knife sharpener, once they found out I could put a sharp edge on all them butcher knives. I had a great time with all then ol' timers back then. Also made a lot of cracklin, and pigskins.
