I collect S&W revolvers made before 1982 and because of that I bought a book called "The Standard Catalog Of Smith & Wesson" 3rd edition which is the S&W Bible. It Contains information about S&W revolvers and semi auto pistols by model. It also has a reference on serial numbers in the back that allows me to determine when a S&W was built. I will glad to answer any questions I can about any members S&W revolver or semi auto pistol. I will also look up the serial number and tell you when it was built. The requester needs to keep in mind that the serial number sequence was set when the frame was made and stamped with the serial number. On slow moving models the gun could be shipped out of sequence with the year the frame was made. A N frame could be used to build any N frame revolver and once they built the gun it could have sat in Inventory for quite awhile and shipped a year later during slow gun buying periods. On serial number "date of birth" requests make sure if the serial number is proceeded by a letter to include it and to keep your serial number private put XX's in the last two number slots. Example D2345XX could be a Model 10 built in 1970.
