I will be purchasing a pistol in the next couple of weeks!! I bought a 100 rounds of 38 shells, and Mom is thinking about selling me Dad's 38 Police Special, with a 6" barrel. I'm going to shoot the 2" snubnose, as well as the 6". I really like the feel of the large grip on the model 30 Glock 9mm semi auto. It fits my hand well!! I wish I had a store that would let you fire the firearms, especially the used ones! They want $489 for the Glock. Is that to much?? I could use a little stirring the right way, I know Kevin doesn't care for the Glock, and he's a Sheriff's Deputy!! I would like the reason why I might like want, or perfer a Revolver over a Semi auto?? Any help appreciated!! ;D

The Glock is a fine weapon in terms of reliability and has sufficient accuracy and the price in todays market is about $39 dollars to high in unless it is mint with box. Glocks can take a beating, be fired dirty, and have ten thousand rounds run through them and they keep going bang. All that said to me they are a butt ugly gun and I sold the 3 I had when I switched to Sig's in 2008. The revolver is definitely old school and has limited appeal because of the number of rounds that it holds. I prefer revolvers for pleasure shooting and at the range because they are fun to shoot and I'm not chasing brass all over the place. Revolvers are also a lot dirtier to shoot and your hands will be covered with gunpowder after a long range session when compared to shooting a semi auto's. In my opinion revolvers are have less that go wrong with them and they will go bang every time and it's a simple point and shoot exercise when it's time for personal defense. Semi autos have lots of different potential areas for problems like magazines, bullet design verse feed ramp, and spring failure due to the action of the slide snapping back violently during the reloading cycle. Like I said above the Glock will run for a very long time problem free and be 100% reliable. The 38 revolver's are an interesting choice between the two barrel lengths you mentioned. The snub nose is easy to conceal and most will even fit in large pants or coat pockets. They have significantly more recoil and muzzle blast then the 6 inch barrel and will have a small loss in velocity. The 6 inch will be a more accurate shooter because of the longer sight radius and will also shoot the same bullet with a higher velocity. That about sums it up on my views and experience and I hope that it helps. I carry a 5 shot S&W J frame during the summer and I Sig P228 9mm with 16 rounds in it the rest of the year. There is no right answer on this question so just buy the one you like the best. My home defense weapons are a pair of Sig P226's located in a couple of different locations within my house. Why? because the 9mm holds 19 rounds and the 40 S&W holds 16 rounds and that's a lot of firepower.
