www.knoxnews.com/news/2011/may/15/bob-hodge-latest-political-fight-might-be-high-noo/I have mixed feelings on this one. They need to return to more game oriented mission like the former Game and Fish Commission. They also need to sit down and write some basic game and fish regs that doesn't have so many variations like fish slot limits etc. A caught fish will likely die. Better to allow it a keeper than waste it. You can't control the size of the fish that strikes your bait. Just common sense.

I don`t always agree with the TWC or the TWRA but we need a wildlife agency of some kind. We "Definately Do Not" need politicians doing the job that TWC and TWRA was formed to do. that would result in total chaos. Hell they can`t even run the guvment and they sure as hell don`t need to be involved this.

Yep. Politicians do that. It's the nature of the beast. Some of the problem is too many special interest with influence trying to run things. The result is what we have now which is chaos. I'd just like a fishing trip to go back to no tape rulers or fish identification books needed. A bass is a bass a trout is a trout etc kind of rules which can work on 99.9% of the places.

I don`t really have an issue with size limits although slot limits sometimes confuse me. I understand the need to protect spawn size fish and also giving small fish time to grow up. I also understand the need to set harvest limits on fish and game animals. It has been a long hard up hill battle to get deer in east tn. to a huntable level. I can remember when just seeing a deer was a closely guarded secret. I can remember when trout were all but impossible to find or catch. Turkey were scarce. Many lakes and streams were too polluted to take fish from. I will not accept returning to that because some politician is too big for his britches. Too many politicians forget that they work for me and my fellow citizens. I hired them and I can fire them.

What would help the slots and the fish in general is a gut hook clause if they are going to have slot limits. A gut hooked fish likely won't last the day much less the season. Tossing a good size gut hooked fish back that is in the throw back size means another will be caught to replace it in your creel limit. It defeats the purpose. In hunts you control what is taken. Fishing caught is determined by the fish biting the hook.
I'd like to see some research done on things like increasing oxygen levels in lakes that should be able to have good fishing. In other words an artificial injection system on some lakes in some areas.
In the places me and you know one up around 25E bridge both rivers. Another down at the Hickory Star Gap in the ridge or out round Wood Duck somewhere. One more out at the forks of the river.

I understand the gut hooked fish clause. I would like that too. I think something like cutting the line and leaving the hook in a gut hooked fish to prove the gut hooking would be acceptable.
The idea of artificial injection is good but likely costly. Probably to much so.

Wouldn't have to be real large or elaborate. A pump spraying water up into the air might do it.

Still it would have to be powered and maintained. Plus some dang idjut would probably mess with it.
