Jeff Jr was here as a graduation presnt from his father{who also tagged along for a hunt}to add to Jeff's excitment I placed him in a ground blind over looking a baitsite,at 40 yards this bruin stepped out on Jeff's 3rd night on stand. He made a good shot and tagged his first ever black bear. His father also tagged out that very same night.

Great stories and pics trapper. Keep them coming brother!! That looks like a good size bear that Jeff Jr. killed. What kind of dog is that you use for tracking? Kind of looks like the ol' Walker Coon hounds we used to coon hunt with. Randy ;D

Nice bears. Just curious do they keep the meat or send it to processors for animal food?

Randy that hound is just a mutt that we had around the camp this season.Didn't track nothing but the hunters when they had a treat for him. ibug......the hunters usually take some of the meat home{what they have room for amongst there hunting gear} the rest I donate after it's processed to our local church{they give it to needly families in this area} Caretaker we ALL had agreat week.

Here's Jeff Sr with his bruin taking on the samenight as his son's.Jeff hunted the samestand{by request} as he did during the 08 season.Same site, same stand even the same tree.Different bruin however. Here's Richard who has been chasing bears for 23 years and never had the chance to kill one until his 3rd night hunting with us.I was easing my way into Richards stand at lastlight, when I rounded the corner and could see him in his stand at 25 yrds.He suddenly rasied his rifle and pointed it at the barrell{I'm thinking he's playing with my head}.Then when he fired the first of two shots I new he wasn't playing games with me,after the first shot, his rifle moved about two feet to the right and the second shot was fired. He then YELLS watch out he's heading your way.......just then I hear the bear coming my way and when he topped the hill at 20 yrds I could see he wasn't in a good mood.I stood my ground and hoped for the best. When the bear made it to within 15 yards he piled up right there in front of me.I had hair standing in places I didn't even know I had hair in.I was getting ready to do one or two of these Anyway here's the bear that made the talk of the week, that week

Caretaker,it was for sure a rush. Not really one I want everyday.I had a young fellow with me that night.Everynight he'd ride with me and when I'd go in for the hunters he'd wanna "tag" along. He never asked again after that night. I turned to grab him incase I needed to pull him outta the way of the bear but all I could see was the bottons of his boots as he ran for my truck. We teased him the rest of the week for leaving his guide behind that way.

Ok thanks Trapper. I'd heard the meat was pretty tough and greasy. I never tried it though. No I would not want to be on the receiving end of a wounded bears charge either LOL. I was hiking in the mountains one time and saw fresh hog sign and could hear them off in the distance. I kept my eyes focused on possible good climbing trees for a while.
